I am doing an experiment that is based on the question of ‘Do different types of music affect words per minute typed. Landon, Dylan and I will be conducting the experiment in the Expedition room at Kennett Middle School. There will be three subjects. Each of us will be typing a paragraph written earlier in the designing of the experiment. While typing the paragraph we will be listening to different types of music (heavy metal, rock, metal, classic rock, hip hop, and rap). For each subject there will be seven trials. One trial without music, then the other six with each type of music (in no specific order). While conducting the experiment we will be recording the data onto a data table that has been printed off the computer. We will document every step by taking pictures with a camera that we will save to our x-drives we will then be able to upload them to our wiki pages and to print and place on our poster boards.
Materials List:
People/Group Members
Music Player( iPod or Computer)
Computer For Subjects To Type A Paragraph Written Previously By Group Members
Data Table To Record Data
Procedure:
1.Gather Materials 2.Select A WPM Calculator 3.Have One Subject Type the Paragraph Written By Group Members While Not Listening To Any Music 4.Then Type the Paragraph While Listening To One Of the Chosen Music Genres 5.Then Repeat Typing the Paragraph While Listening To Each of the Remaining Music Genres 6.Have Remaining Subjects Repeat Steps 3-5

Conclusion
The original purpose of this experiment was to see if there would be a difference in Words Per Minute typed when listening to different genres of music (chosen by my partners) while typing a paragraph on a Words Per Minute calculator. The results of the experiment shows that there was no significant difference between our typing speeds when listening to different music genres.
Discussion
My hypothesis was that Words Per Minute typed would be affected when listening to the different music genres. My results do not support my hypothesis. There is no relationship between the independent and dependent variables. Some patterns or trends my data show are that the more experience typing you have, you would typically have a higher Words Per Minute than if you had very little experience. I think that the test I did went smoothly but with very minor problems. The the main problem my group had was that we weren’t always available, or in some cases, uninterested in doing the experiment. If I could improve my experiment I honestly do not think I would, even if I could. I am unsure as to what an interesting future study could involve.
